The authentic Hakka Yong Tow Fu originated from Ampang in Malaysia. Not the traditional Yong Tow Fu that you can find from the food centres, which you got to pick your selection from the large varieties of Yong Tow Fu, cooked and topped with chili or tomatoes sweet sauce. You have a choice of soup or dry version.

Ngee Fou Ampang Yong Tow Fu is quite different, there is no bowl and tong in front of the stall for you to pick and choose the items, the ordering system goes by go by the number of diners, standard ingredients consist of Kang kong, fish balls, fried quail egg, fried tofu, steamed tofu, chili, lady fingers, binjal, fried beancurd skin, bittergourd and fried wanton will then be served with rice. Of course, you can opt out those items that you dislike. The Yong Tow Fu only has the dried version, the plate of Yong Tow Fu will then doused with starchy brown gravy and come with steamed rice.

The ingredients were very freshly made daily and freshness was not the concern, the winning formula from Ngee Fou Ampang Yong Tow Fu is really the gravy, we love the gooey gravy that was very flavourful, it was a harmonized of sweetness, saltiness and aromatic, when doused over the dish, it synchronized perfectly with the Yong Tow Fu and turned the whole dish impressively delicious and succulent to the taste buds. The fried bean curd skin was a medley of saltiness and fragrance, eat it on its own or dipping into the gravy were simply heavenly.

We ordered the wanton soup as well for review, the wanton was reasonable tasty and likewise for the broth, nothing too exciting and it was just an ordinary dish and not much to hype about.

If you plan to visit the place, do take note there is another Ampang Yong Tow Fu few steps away at the same row of shop, the standard and quality are different and do not got it messed out with 928 Ngee Fou Yong Tau Foo.

Overall, we love the gooey gravy and the freshness of the Yong Tow Fu from Ngee Fou Ampang Yong Tau Foo.  It gives a different dimension for you to appreciate the Yong Tow Fu and from the crowd response, the mandate is clear.
