Review Summary:

Overall, Bei Sheng Seafood survived the past few decades with its cheap and reasonable good thai cuisine at the food court price. While we continue to see more and more Thai restaurants sprouting out in this island offering affordable Thai food to meet the growing pool of the Thai food lovers here, Bei Sheng Seafood seems to retain its popularity from the crowd observed in the restaurant. We hope their business will continue to thrive as it has shown in the past few decades.

When I worked in Yishun more than twenty years ago, Bei Sheng Seafood was operating a food stall from the food court in Sembanwang Shopping Centre. The stall was our regular lunch or dinner chill-out place with the colleagues. We simply enjoyed the cheap and good Thai food here, the friendly owners and their traditional nice gesture of given some discount at the end of the meal or a bowl of free dessert was memorable.

The change of my job inevitably stopped me from going back to patronise the stall for a long time, if my memory served me right, perhaps more than a decade since my last visit to the stall. From Single to Married with two glutton kids now, I decided to bring the glutton family back for the trail of the nostalgia taste.

The friendly owners were still here running the business in Yishun, not in the food stall operating but out of the food court; having upgraded and expanded to a sizable restaurant. The price strategy is pretty much the same – very affordable and no GST or service charge.

We ordered the Thai deep fried fish delight or better known as Three flavour Thai fish, Deep Fried cuttlefish, KangKong with Belachan, Tom Yam soup, Thai fried kway teow and of course the all time favourite Thai pineapple fried rice.

Thai Deep Fried Fish Delight was deep fried to achieve a crisp skin and retained the tenderness of the fish meat. Dipping the meat into the sauce with the medley of sweet, sour and spicy heightened and enhanced the fish tastefulness.

Deep Fried Cuttlefish was one of their signature dishes. The cuttlefish was deep fried to create a layer of crispy coating and you can enjoy the chewiness and freshness of the cuttlefish. The deep fried cuttlefish went well with the house thai red and green chili sauce.

Pineapple Fried Rice was one of the better one in town, at least you can really taste the sweetness and flavour of the pineapple encrusted in every grain of the rice. Most of the pineapple rice we tried elsewhere were simply presented as yellowish rice and completely missed out the much needed pineapple’s flavour. The topping of the pork floss gave the dish the extra punch, with the marvelously sweetness from the pineapple slices and the accentuation of the flavour with the added sausage, a good dish you should try.

KangKong Belachan was my chubby boy’s favorite; we have it as part of the binding order imposed by him that KangKong Belachan must be the standard dish to order if the dish is available in the menu. Be it good or bad, eighty percentage of this dish will definitely be slurped up by him. The KangKong Belachan here was average and nothing to leave a deep impression on us.

Tom Yam Soup was the milky type with a tangy of spiciness, though we tend to find a clear soup version was more divine to our liking, the Tom Yam soup here was redolent with the myriad of flavour and pleasantly to the taste.

Thai Fried Kway Teow was one of the dishes that you should not miss. The white noodle was topped with prawn, eggs and bean sprout, the seasoning was cleverly done creating a flavourful dish that will make you asking for more.

  1. Comparison nearby Thai Cuisine still not up to standard, best Thai Cuisine in Yishun area is the Nakhon Kitchen Yishun located at 233, Yishun Street 21, Singapore 760233. They really use Thai Cook and even the Waiter and Waitress is Thai people. Especially the fish is using a deep fried 1 over Kilo Groupa serving with the Thai Chilli Sauces. It cost only $22. This dish can serve up to 8 person and is very reasonable. Also the Tom Yam Soup is really origin from Thailand.

  2. You are right Nakhon Kitchen is quite good, we had tried the one at Bedok and Hougang, both are good.
