GreenDot @ Paya Lebar Square: Eat Green Feel Good
GreenDot focus on healthy eating by going after more green and meatless is an inspiration from two young men in their mid 20. Justin and Yong Hong started selling vegetarian food in the school canteen before spreading its wings to the shopping malls.
Justin is an uncompromising vegetarian but Yong Hong was once a carnivore who used to keep the green a thousand miles away from his plate. It is only under the influence of Justin for Yong Hong to realize the beauty of vegetarian food and decided to go with him, that is the start of GreenDot and the rest are just history.
You may associate vegetarian with GreenDot but GreenDot strictly speaking should not be classified under the same category. Though the food contained no meat similar to the typical vegetarian dishes, the abnegation of processed mocked meat, fried items and without overloading of carbohydrate components in the dishes differentiated GreenDot from most of others vegetarian restaurants.
Food here is unsophisticated; plenty of green and mushroom are the essential constituents of all the dishes here.
Laksa Noodles $5.90
The rich and aromatic gravy created a beautifully subtle of spicy and savory flavours that made every taste bud came lively instantly, you can taste the laksa flavour muddled up with all other ingredients in the gravy, complement the noodles well and created a truly tantalizing delicacy.
Lion Mane Mushroom Rendang Rice $9.50
Lion Mane mushroom or Monkey Head mushroom prepared in the rendang way, served with lots of green and savoury cooked mushroom. The rendang deserved our compliment for its alluring flavour, this is further shore up by the impressive garlicky rice and the fragrance of the rice was so good that we can eat it on its own.
Mini Hot Pot Set $29.90 for 2 pax or $59.90 for 4 pax
You have a choice of Tom Yam, Herbal or Laksa broth as base depends on your preference, the broth are tasty and free flow of refilling, so never worried the bowl of broth will run dry. The set meal served with Shitake Mushroom, Enoki Mushroom, Shimeiji Mushroom, Tomato, Tau Kee, Konnyaku Prawn, Baby Nai Bai, Chinese cabbage and Green Coral in your choice of soup. Side dishes include Plated Sauteed Broccoli, Mixed Fruits and Salad. The three types of broths are equally impressive with the very fresh veggies and mushroom.
Herbal Noodles $5.90
The bowl of herbal broth was diluted and tamed; the lacking of herb was too mild to appreciate the bowl of noodles fully. However, the same broth used in the set meal was tasted far superior; the kitchen could have done a better job to maintain the consistency of the broth.
Lion’s Mane Mushroom Burger $8.90
Meet the steak of veggie burgers. Lion’s mane mushroom patty, sliced cheese and veggies on a wholemeal bun served with French fries. The mushroom patty was slight crisp exterior and somewhat has the similarity taste feeling to those meaty patties. A thumb up from us.
