Well, maybe not for now - we are happy with the noodle here (plus it's not a 4 hour drive away)!

When Kin Kin Chilli Pan Mee opened its branch here in Singapore, a queuing time of 2 to 3 hours was to be expected and we hear a snaking queue was a common scene outside the shop. Well, this was definitely not the case for us the Glutton family,  as we patiently waited till the heat subsided before heading down to the shop, where there was no waiting time at all. (Yes sometimes you need to strategize to get to your food!)

Originally from KL, Malaysia, we have yet to try it at their original Malaysian stall so we can’t really compare the two. But we’d never say no finding out for ourselves what’s so good about a much-raved-about dish – in this case, why Kin Kin Chilli Pan Mee stirred up so much interest in our local food scene.

We ordered the signature pan mee and a bowl of fishball soup. The noodle came with round noodles slightly thicker than our mee kia, with a texture that is a lot more smooth and chewy – in fact, very chewy. The noodle was topped with quality ikan bilis, meat balls, fried minced pork and a poached egg. Kin Kin’s Chilli pan mee doesn’t come with chilli, you can tailor the level of spiciness by adding the special chilli that’s on every table. The chili was not of the tongue searing variety, but rather a pleasantly delicious, dry roasted chilli flakes kind.

We mixed a spoonful of chilli flakes in the noodle, along with the oozing yolk from the broken poached egg, and stirred everything with the pan mee. The minced meat was well-seasoned and fried to the point of slight crispiness – something unique to Kin Kin – and the result was a bowl of succulent noodle that is truly delectable.

The fishball soup came with big fishballs, fried beancurd wrapped around fish meat, and pork meatballs. The fishballs were fresh and chewy, meatballs were flavourful and the soup had a tad of sweetness and was packed with natural fragrance. A perfect accompaniment to the noodle.

The verdict? We are quite pleased with Kin Kin Chilli Pan Mee here in Singapore. The noodle  impressed us with its well-balanced taste and noodle texture.
