Vietnam is one of the very few places in the world that hard to find a sizable of population with obesity problems. Has it got to do with the Vietnamese food which has always been acclaimed one of the healthiest cuisines in the world? May be the minimal use of oil and dairy products and reliance heavily on herbs and fresh vegetables could provide some hints.

Besides Common ingredients include fish sauce, shrimp paste, fresh vegetables. Spices like lemongrass, mint, pepper, coriander and basil leaves are commonly found in many of the Vietnamese food.

Pho Street is one of the latest addition Vietnamese restaurants launched by the Select group. The emphasis on the healthy, yet tasty nature of Vietnamese cuisine provides a balanced diet dining place to many of the sinfully food offered by other food outlets.

Pho Street offers a wide variety of street snacks which includes the famous summer roll and fresh pork spring roll.

Pork belly meat, fresh shrimp, noodle and fresh vegetables are wrapped in the thin sheet of Vietnamese rice paper. Dab into the special paste and pop into the month, the combination was alluring and satisfying.

Served in the flat basket contained the Crispy Fried Pork Roll (2 pcs), Roasted Chicken Skewers (2 pcs) and Crabcake (2 pcs) Nothing too artificial and a hearty treat for all of us.

Crispy Fried Chicken Wings $4.90 (3 pcs)

Battered and deep fried mid-wings served with caramelized sweet dip. Crispy  coating and juicy wings were additive.

Sesame Rice Cracker with Minced meat $6.90

The sesame rice cracker was a nice pair with the minced meat seasoned with spices. My two teen kids wiped out everything in seconds.

Pho Beef Combination $9.90

Pho is a Vietnamese noodle soup was originally sold at dawn and dusk by roaming street vendors, this is the signature dish served with beef meat balls, beef slices, beef shank, beef tendons and beef Tripe! Yes, the edible offal from the stomach of the cow. It was simply and unassuming look but unpretentious with the succulent stock.

Dry Rice Vermicelli with Pork Chop $8.90

Dry rice vermicelli was topped with pork chop and the special sauce to the noodle. The sweet and light sourness sauce was appetizing and the pork chop was marinated to complement the noodle well.

Roasted Pork Chop with Fragrance rice $7.90

Same pork chop but the rice vermicelli was replaced by the fragrance rice. The pork chop is not the typical western grilled or fried pork chop but resemble the Hong Kong roasted char siew. Not the Char siew comes glistening with a shiny gross but Another novel item on the menu.

Banh Mi

Toasted Crusty bread loaf stuffed with roasted Pork, mayonnaise, pickled carrot, radish, cucumber, Chili and cilantro.  The bread by itself already packed with the fragrance of the wheat, take the first bite and densely packed bread texture was evident. The delightfully crispy bread and the balance between fresh herbs and meats with selective use of spices helped to make a fine taste that was tantalizingly flavoursome.

The mung bean drink with ice cream was creamy and thick that make the drink too cloying to our liking, the overwhelming artificial flavouring completely masked the mung bean fragrance and an uninspiring dessert overall.
