First sip of the sweet broth received our nod immediately; the broth was saturated with the fragrance from the Pandan leaves and perfect sweetness that complemented well with all the ingredients in the bowl.
Since 1939 – that’s what indicated on Ye Lai Xiang Cheng Tng 夜来香清汤 signboard. A cheng tng stall that has the baton passing down the generations. Often touted as one of the best cheng tng in Singapore by many of the foodies, Ye Lai Xiang has been in the business selling this sweet and delicate herbal dessert for decades. So, what is the attraction of making this dessert stall to the success?
The Cheng Tng come served in a clear glass bowl, never underestimate this glassware, it has a psychology effects of making the Cheng Tng taste better compared to eating the Cheng Tng in a Melamine or Ceramic bowl, the glass bowl somehow gives the clear sweet dessert a special “cooling ” feeling by the first impression, a perfect pairing to the Cheng Tng.
First sip of the sweet broth received our nod immediately; the broth was saturated with the fragrance from the Pandan leaves and perfect sweetness that complemented well with all the ingredients in the bowl. There were at least close to ten types of different ingredients in the bowl, preserved longan and persimmon, sweet potato, Gingko, white fugus, mung bean, Barley, winter melon, sago, pong dai hai, yan chai and lotus seed. We can fully appreciate the well seasoned ingredients and the alluding flavour.
Ye Lai Xiang Cheng Tng may have many accolades to their name but there are also noises complaining the high price or force sell to purchase the upsize. To us, we did enjoy the Cheng Tng and of course, no upsize.
