Apollo Nasi Lemak @ Paya Lebar Square 大伯乐
Apollo Nasi Lemak is a new setup offering traditional Nasi Lemak with some modern twist in Paya Lebar Square – a shopping cum commercial building located right next to the Paya Lebar MRT. Apollo Nasi Lemak runs an eatery shop with a sitting capacity of about 30 with take away and delivery services as well.
The legacy of this Malay tradition breakfast meal has been evolving with time, dining at Apollo Nasi Lemak provides you with plenty of choices and combinations, so fairly easy to find one that suits your palates.
We had four of the most popular one on the menu.
The common items in the plate besides the rice, there are egg, Ikan Billis, peanuts, Japanese cucumber and sambal chilli to complement the set.
The rice was fragrant with hint of coconut and pandan flavour, rice may be a little mushy but we love the overall well-balanced taste. Ikan Billies or the anchovy was nicely fried and a perfect match to the fried peanuts, Apollo Nasi Lemak uses better quality Ikan Billis and peanuts for the meals to assure you the worthiness of the money paid.
Sambal Chili may seems as the accompanying sauce but in reality, it is one of the key ingredients very much to decide a good or bad Nasi Lemak. Fortunately, the sambal chili sauce at Apollo Nasi Lemak never failed us, it has the right spiciness, sweetness and flavour to entice the tastebuds.
Apollo Boneless set $7.9
1 Chicken cutlet, fish fillet, luncheon meat, egg, Ikan Billis, peanuts, Japanese cucumber and sambal chilli.
If you are too lazy to gnaw the bone or scrapping the clinging meat is something that you wouldn’t enjoy, Apollo Boneless set is an ideal choice. The chicken cutlet and fish fillet were juicy and tender, together with luncheon meat, egg and other side dishes, you can enjoy a plate of delicious Nasi Lemak without all the hassles with the bone.
Apollo 123 $7.9
1 Chicken wing, 2 Ikan Kuning, 3 slices of pork belly, egg, Ikan Billis, peanuts, Japanese cucumber and sambal chilli.
If you like to have varieties in your meal, Apollo 123 set could be a good choice, you can sample the top few most popular items from the menu, you can experience the nice seasoned and battered chicken wing with the medium size fresh Ikan Kuning and the deep fried pork belly. One of the most popular ordered items on the menu.
Belly Good Set $6.9
Pork belly, egg, Ikan Billis, peanuts, Japanese cucumber and sambal chilli.
Thinly sliced pork belly was seasoned and deep fried, served as the main dish for this set meal, the pork belly was crispy but has the fat to keep the meat juicy and moist, the skin of pork belly could harden slightly if cooled down and need some chewing work, so do consume as soon as possible to enjoy the best texture while it is freshly fried, we do agree the pork belly was flavourful and an interesting new creation that worth the try.
Drumstick Set $6.9
Chicken, egg, Ikan Billis, peanuts, Japanese cucumber and sambal chilli.
Chicken was well marinated and flavourful exteriorly, however, the internal may be a little bland and more time may be needed to allow the seasoning fully infused into the meat.
Otah and Vegetable Curry
Both are side dishes, in our opinions, Otah was acceptable but the texture, flavour and spiciness can be further enhanced for the curry for a more robust taste.
Notes:Side orders are available eg Mackerel Otah, cabbage curry, spring rolls, fishcakes, chicken nuggets, potatoes cullet etc
From the monotonous old traditional Nasi Lemak that wrapped in banana leaves with a small Ikan Kuning and a slice of fried egg with coconut flavoured rice, the modern Nasi Lemak is now come with varieties of choices, at Apollo Nasi Lemak, you can now experience Classic traditional Kuning set at $3.90 to the premium Galaxy Set with lobster at $24.90, you probably agree Nasi Lemak has a complete new definition in the modern day.
