From its birthplace at Golden Mile Food Centre to NUS and now at Timbre+, The Fishball story has earned themselves lots of praises with the latest Bib Gourmand award in the inaugural Singapore Michelin Guide. It is indeed a great news for them as we have done the review at their Golden Mile location that reaffirmed our love for this noodle stall.

The Fishball Story has won our hearts over with its great noodles and nice ingredients, we’d love to continue listening to the story and went to check it out again at their newest place at Timbre+ along Ayer Rajah Crescent near One-North.
We went for the usual signature mee pok dry which now is served with additional fried fish skin and wrapped fish paste as toppings besides the usual fishballs and fish cakes. Prices have edged up as well to $4.50 perhaps with the higher operating cost at this more upscale food centre and the extra ingredients added.

Not the usual young man manning the stall but there was an aunt running the show. After the first few mouthfuls we started scrambling looking for the familiar great taste, where is it? The bowl of our favourite mee pok seems to have missed the fragrance of lard and the impressive chili sauce that we used to love at its Golden Mile location, likewise the usual bounciness texture of the fishballs.

We could not believe the standard has since been dropped so drastically that even my son who was one of the most die-hard fans of Fishball Story was shaking his head in disapproval at the bowl of noodles. Could it be our hard luck? We do not want the stall to be affected by the pernicious influences if this is just the mishaps by the chef. We went back a week later hoping it was pure luck but unfortunately Fishball story is definitely not on the right path.
We used to be very confident Fishball Story can be one of the best fishball noodles in Singapore but our confidence is now much shattered. We love The Fishball Story, unfortunately, it is a story that ends sadly.
