Hua Kee Wanton Mee is definitely deserved the word “Famous” to its name because the right texture of the noodles and the special sauce after blending together truly created into a beautiful subtle balance of taste.
Hua Kee Hougang Famous Wanton Mee Review
No, Hua Kee isn’t actually located in Hougang – like many famous stalls, they bring their name along with them when they relocate. Instead, Hua Kee can be found at the Old Kallang Airport hawker centre – one of our favorite food spots.
Location aside, the long queue at this famous stall makes it seem like there’s something really special about their noodles – but after finally getting our hands on it, nothing about its appearance revealed just what makes it such a draw. It looked just like any other wanton noodle – so what made it so special?
Well, we were converts after we had a taste. What we can say is that Hua Kee Wanton Mee definitely deserves the word “Famous” in its name because when the perfect texture of the noodle, coupled with the special sauce came together, it created such a beautiful yet subtle balance, unexpected from such a humble dish.
That said, the Char siew is normal and not as good as Eng’s noodles but still better than Fei Fei. The soup is a little sweet but tasty. Anyway, the wanton mee is the real star and Hua Kee truly lives up to its reputation. There are two wanton mee stalls next to each other and do order from the right one. Old Airport Road Food Centre has been named one of the best food centres in Singapore and this is one of the stalls that well deserves your visit.
