Loo’s Hainanese Curry Rice Review – Just Delicious!

Loo’s Hainanese Curry Rice Review

It takes three days to prepare the curry. That is the claim from Loo’s Hainanese Curry Rice.

Located in a coffeeshop in the Tiong Bahru area, near the popular Tiong Bahru Food Centre, Loo’s Hainanese Curry Rice has made a name to be one of the best Hainanese Curry Rice in Singapore.

The chopping knife has seems to pause for a minute, cutting plates of pork chop, cuttlefish and braised meat for the snaking queue. Various types of gravy from the cooked dishes sloshed all over the display counter, messy? But isn’t that a good indication a real good Hainanese curry rice stall?

$37.5 for the 7 dishes, reasonable price.

Curry rice

Dining at any of the Hainanese Curry Rice stall, the curry has to take the precedence over and above all. If the curry fails to please the tastebuds, it doesn’t matter how good the sides are.

We have to agree that the 3-day work on the curry is evident with the curry doused over the rice. Tangy and aromatic with hints of spiciness, five of us fully endorse the good standard of the curry.

We ordered a good variety of dishes and most of them were pleasantly good.

Pork Chop

We were too late to prevent the pork chops pieces from being drenched in the tomato sauce. True enough, the sauce dampened the crispiness of the coating and ruined the overall taste, otherwise, the meat was tender and nice.

Meat balls

Flavourful and delicious.

Curry vegetable

The curry vegetable was mild and not as rich as the curry gravy that was doused over the rice. Cabbage was soft but we would prefer a more robust flavour in the curry.

Braised Tau Pok

The thick sauce found its way into every nook and cranny of the spongey Tau Pok. The sodium content might be high but it was a savoury dish to complement the rice.

Stir fried beansprouts

The only dish that was not well-received by us. The beansprouts were way too undercooked and the taste of eating raw veggies was definitely not enjoyable.

Cabbage

Almost a must-order dish for us when eating Hainanese rice. We like the softness and the hint of sweetness from the cabbage, which was the best to eat with the curry rice.

Cuttlefish

Deservingly lives up to be one of their signature dishes here. Tender and chewy, the chilli cuttlefish was moreish and highly recommended.

Fried Egg

The eggs were fried till partially charred, and some of us like the charred flavour but some dislike the bitterness of the burnt taste.

Our verdict

It is not easy to find a good and all-rounded Hainanese curry rice. However, Loo’s Hainanese Curry Rice is well-positioned to be one of the best around. If you are seriously craving for some good Hainanese curry rice, you should know where to head next.
