Mr and Mrs Mohgan’s Super Crispy Roti Prata Review

Mr & Mrs Mohgan Prata has been named one of the best prata in Singapore from many of rave reviews received. It is what lured us to this coffeeshop stall to get a taste how good it is. The coffeeshop was a little congested with almost back to back sitting. Four of us waited for more than 40 minutes for our Plain prata and egg prata.

Other flavours on the menu include the onion ($1.30), mushroom ($1.8) and cheese ($1.8) prata.

Plain prata ($1) and with egg ($1.5)

The prata served with Dhalcha or fish curry sauce. We came with an empty stomach in the morning and the growling calls desperately need pacification under the long wait.

We came with high expectations but after tucking into the dough, four of us were mulled over the Prata and started searching for this highly hyped about prata, obviously  something was missing, fluffiness was not in the equation with its thin layer of folds, crispiness was acceptable and the prata’s aroma was not exceptionally impressive that we can short about.

The consolation about Mr & Mrs Mohgan Prata probably lies with the light and non-greasy texture, however, the curry fish sauce was ultimately a mediocre with its watery, diluted and insipid taste. Is it the standard from Mr & Mrs Mohgan Prata or our pure luck on the day? Whatever it is, Isn’t that consistency in quality be respected for a well-endorsed prata stall?

Crispiness is not everything for a good prata, the fragrance; texture and dipping curry sauce in combination have to complement each other, solely relied on crispiness to impress may not be adequate in our opinions.

Mutton curry ($3)

Couldn’t find the satisfaction with the prata and curry, we ordered the additional Mutton curry which was better than the fish curry but nothing too great to highlight here.

Our verdict

Unfortunately after tasting most of the famous roti prata stalls and shops in Singapore, we may not share the same sentiment Mr and Mrs Mohgan Super Crispy Roti Prata’s hymn of the prata.

However, we have to agree taste is subjective and a bog-standard prata could be the gem in other’s eyes which we fully respect.

Durian is nice but not everyone loves it.
