Chicken rice, fishball noodles, prawn noodles, fried kway teow…The traditional hawker food that have been embedded in our food legacy are gradually going through transformations. Some are breaking away from tradition with fusion hawker food, and it couldn’t be more ideal to let the young entrepreneurs relish in their passion for cooking, and introduce fresh new concepts to hawker food.

The new Pasir Ris Central Hawker Centre seems to be the go-to for new fusion hawker food. While traditional hawker food continues to thrive in the new hawker centre, a second level is now designated to house the many young food entrepreneurs to bring hawker food to the next level.

Prawnaholic – one of the stalls managed by a young chef and selling traditional Prawn noodles with a modern twist, the signature dry version is one of their best sellers. Deviating from the traditional spicy chili-seasoned base sauce, the black sauce held a slight sweetness and savouriness that was pleasant to the palates with its delectable flavour. The spice was however, undetectable.

The al dente noodle was topped with two fresh perfectly-cooked medium-sized prawns, a tasty cuttlefish ball, two slices of perfectly-charred pork belly which were juicy and extremely fragrant, and an add-on onsen egg ($1) to the bowl for extra flavour.

The bowl of soup was not to be taken lightly as well with the hints of herbs and the sweetness infused by the seafood.

Our verdict

Prawnaholic is the dream work of a young chef come true. We applaud his culinary skills to create a unique prawn noodle that still has the characteristics of a traditional one. Of course, the noodles come with a hefty price tag ($6.50), but we think it was justifiable for the quality presented.

Be it to support our young food entrepreneurs or for the bowl of enthralling prawn noodle, we fully endorse the work presented by Prawnaholic.
