Mao Cai is part of the traditional Sichuan cuisine, however, the line is vague between the main and the side for the layman, Mao Cai is characterized by its spiciness and numbness from the peppercorns, hard to differentiate from the main stream of Sichuan cuisine.

The top three most popular choices by the public are the spicy fish, spicy frog and the stewed duck with potatoes. We did not go for all the top three but ordered the stewed duck with potatoes from the top three picks.

The high expectations on this dish did not make the delivery, the stewed duck was tough in texture, contradicting to the accolades of the tenderly meat given in many of the reviews. So, are we eating the mother duck instead of a young ducking? Overall a run of the mills dish and not able to warrant the top three choice.

Combination of a few different types of mushrooms and done with a simple stir-fried, not too appealing but do not be deceived by the appearance, the mixed mushrooms is sumptuously prepared and the essence of the mushrooms can be fully appreciated. A dish well-loved by all of us.

Our intention is to order the fried diced chicken with dried chili but mistakenly placed the wrong order. The dish turned out to be the wet version, copious of green and red chili cooked with diced chicken, unfortunately there is nothing fanciful about this dish.

Si Wei Mao Cai may not impressed us too much with the meaty dishes but the veggies definitely win our hearts over. The fragrance of eggplant was expressively lifted to the peak with the most adulterated taste. Even our numerous attempts in the kitchen to whip out this dish could never come close and truly kowtow to the chef that create this sumptuous dish.

Menu stated Jack beans but what served was thought to be French bean instead. The stir fried beans has a sweet-sacoury delightful crunch and a satisfying dish.

Our verdict on Si Wei Mao Cai

Si Wei Mao Cai may not be the paradise for the carnivores, however, the herbivores will probably in love with the lip-smacking veggie dishes made with an unyielding enthusiasm that ones can feel in each bite.
