Food review at Timbre plus @ Ayer Rajah Crescent

 timbreplus-11

What do you think about the ambience of our hawker centres? Hot, humid, and congested? How about making a trip to Timbre+ and comparing the environment at this privately-owned  food centre?

timbreplus-10

Timbre+, the 24,000 sq. ft. gastropark is a upgraded food hall, you can describe the place as a high-end hawker centre. It offers a diversity of restaurant-grade food and casual eats at affordable prices. The non air-conditioned food centre is well ventilated with huge gigantic fans to ensure maximum comfort when dining here all day round. You can be sure the stuffiness and heat experienced in most of the hawker centres will not happen here.

Timbre+ houses 14 restaurants-grade of food in a causal setting helmed by chef-owners, together under the same roof, there are many other traditional mom and pop hawker stalls proving to be popular comfort food.

Food, beer and nightly live music enlivened the place with a multi-dimensional experience.

Garcons

timbreplus-4

Garçons is a casual French dining concept that serves up classic French dishes at affordable prices. Popular dishes like Duck Leg Confit, 12-hour Belly of Pork, Braised Lamb Shank, Oxtail Stew and entrees such as Black Miso Foie Gras, Escargot and Tuna Tataki Salad.

Duck Leg Confit 17.5

 timbreplus-2

Duck meat was dry and hard, seasoning has plenty of room to improve for a more flavourful taste.

12-hour Belly of Pork 16.9

timbreplus-3

The 12 hours of the pork belly should end up with a tender and tasty meat if seasoned appropriately. Unfortunately, Garcons was not able to work its magic to heighten the sublimity of the pork belly.

Teppei Daidokoro 8.80

 timbreplus-6

Teppei Daidokoro is the latest offering from Chef Teppei Yamashita in Singapore. Teppei Daidokoro serves Japanese cuisine and is famous for their Yakitori, Chicken Karaage, Croquette and Donburi dishes.

The Yakitori Don has nice flavour-infused Yakitori sticks and went very well with the signature tare or Yakitori sauce. The yakitori menu includes chicken meatball, chicken with Japanese leek, pork belly, pork sausages, salmon belly and quail eggs.

Two  wings Chicken

two-wings-chicken-5

Two wings Chicken is one of the tenants here and their popularity has triggered our curiosity to check them out.

Original flavour

two-wings-chicken-7

The battered chicken wings has a nice, crisp coating and tender meat but the flavour is not something can create a deep impression. We tried to dip into the chilli sauce that 99% resembled the Hainanese chicken rice chili sauce.

 Salted egg flavour

two-wings-chicken-6

The additional salted egg sauce help to lift up the flavour compared to the original flavour. Again, the chicken tasted ok but it’s not something with a wow effect.

 Fishball Story 4.50

The Fishball Story has won our hearts over with its great noodles and nice ingredients at their birth place, Golden Mile Food Centre. We love to continue listening to the story and went to check it out again at their newest place at Timbre+ along Ayer Rajah Crescent near One-North. timbreplus-1

We went for the usual signature mee pok dry which is now served with additional fried fish skin and wrapped fish paste as the topping besides the usual fishballs and fish cakes. Prices have edged up as well to 4.50 perhaps with the higher operating cost at this more upscale food centre and the extra ingredients added.

Not the usual young man tending the stall but an auntie running the show. After the first few mouthfuls we started looking for the familiar great taste, where is it? The bowl of our favourite mee pok seems to be missing the fragrance of lard and the impressive chili sauce that we used to love at its Golden Mile location, likewise the usual bounciness texture of the fishballs.

We used to be very confident The Fishball Story well deserves to be one of the best fishball noodles in Singapore. However, our confidence is now much shattered. We love The Fishball Story and hope it will not flop.

Iskina Cebu Singapore 10.0

 timbreplus-8

Lechon, the classic roasted pork famous in Cebu – crunchy, bouncy, juicy, tender meat with a crispy reddish-brown skin now joined Timbre+ to offer this Cebu popular food to Singapore.

 timbreplus-9

Maybe we didn’t order the right dish or it was just our luck, the Spicy Bellychon with rice we tried was mediocre, the roasted pork was largely just fat, which was bland and fairly tasteless. We suggest you to consider other dishes on their menu. Lechon if done right could be salivating.

Vatos Express

Vatos is a fusionof Korean-Mexican cuisine. Vatos Urban Tacos comes to Timbre+ in the form of Vatos Express. Favourites are Kimchi Carnitas Fries which was voted the “best dish in Korea”, Galbi Short Rib Tacos, Mango Prawn Quesadillas.

Set of 3 Galbi short rib tacos 18.0

The rib and the garnishing veggies wrapped with the tortilla was reasonably well prepared to showcase a good quality taco from this renowned restaurant.

Kush

timbreplus-7

Kush offers grilled meat and vegetables on skewers as well as rice bowls concept. We opted for the Grilled Chicken Curry rice bowl (10.8) but frankly, it was a bad choice. Featureless chicken and sambal kangkong with mismatched satay sauce and onsen eggs that was doused over the rice. However, let’s be fair to Kush, we cannot seal its fate based on just one item. Their mainstream dishes on the menu have yet to be explored, but if you would like to try, we seriously don’t recommend you try the Grilled Chicken Curry rice.

Our verdict

At Timbre+, it is not just a place to fix your hunger from the varieties of food. Thought Timbre+ has a hawker centre façade but it has a very pleasing environment to make you relax here. Clean, spacious, airy, eclecticism in stall design provide a great social space that has the ingenuity to draw customers.  An good example for our future food centres?
