Yuan Chun Famous Lor Mee Review
If lor mee is one of your favorites, Yuan Chun Famous Lor Mee should not be sound unfamiliar to you. Located at Amoy Food Centre, the stall is honour the title of Master of Lor Mee by the media. The popularity of Yuan Chun Famous Lor Mee clearly reflect by the size of their operation, occupying two adjacent stalls to meet the demand.
The lor mee comes in basis $3 bowl but $4 and $5 dollars with additional toppings. We ordered the $4 serving.
The portion is relatively small for a bowl of $4 lor mee, may be the Food Centre is located in the city area and patrons are expected to pay a higher premium for the food here.
The lor mee served with thin white bee hoon and yellow flat noodle, topped with braised pork, beansprout and two small pathetic fish chunks, the fish was not the fried fish but steamed fish with the meat hauled out, it was not quite harmonized with the traditional lor mee but can be more bearable if only the fish was not too powdery in the texture and properly de-bone. (We found fish bones in the meat !)
The gravy from Yuan Chun Famous Lor Mee is highly viscous and not easily turned watery over time which is a unique character of the lor mee here. However, the thick gravy was somehow missing the wow effect, it was tasted plain salty and fairly ordinary, the “Lor” is the soul of a good lor mee but unfortunately the seasoning in the gravy was just mediocre.
Yuan Chun Famous Lor Mee Our verdict:
Yuan Chun Famous Lor Mee is somehow not able to create too much of excitement in our taste buds. May be it is too authentic or too unique that beyond our comprehension to appreciate the lor mee here. Looking at the Master of Lor Mee’s award which is prominently displaying at the stall, we can’t help but keep asking ourselves did we miss out something?
